Graeme Smith of South Africa poses with the trophy during the ICC Champions Trophy.
South Africa captain Graeme Smith is right on target to make his return to competitive cricket in the ICC Champions Trophy tournament warm-up match against the West Indies at Potchefstroom's Senwes Park on 17 September.

Smith will miss the Proteas' Standard Bank squad's two practice matches with the bizhub Highveld Lions this week but team physiotherapist Brandon Jackson said his planned rehab programme was perfectly on target.

"Graeme's elbow is healing well post surgery," commented Jackson. "He is in week 11 of a structured 13-week return to full activity programme. He is currently batting against tennis balls and against underarm bowling with a cricket ball, together with intensive gym strengthening and boxing.

"This excludes him from matches this week.

"We expect him to return to full batting activity in 10 days' time," he concluded.
