Muttiah Muralidaran, Sanath Jayasuriya and Chaminda Vaas are the only three players from the 1996 World Cup-winning team who have been included.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has named a 30-man preliminary squad for ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 on Monday, 13 December. The 30-man squad will be pruned to 15 before 19 January, the final date for submission of squad to the ICC.

ICC Cricket World Cup 1996 winners, opener Sanath Jayasuriya and fast medium bowler Chaminda Vaas have also been named in the squad for the showpiece event. The only uncapped player in the squad is fast bowler Nuwan Pradeep.

The mega event kicks off on 19 February at Dhaka with co-hosts India and Bangladesh playing each other in the opening game. Sri Lanka's first game will be against Canada at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium,Sooriyawewa, Hambantota on 20 February.
