“This is an important step forward in terms of realising our vision of having Christchurch play a key role in the tournament.” says ICC Cricket World Cup 2015’s Head of New Zealand Therese Walsh.

“Since announcing Christchurch as a host city we have received tremendous support from within the city and around the world, and I’m sure today’s news will be equally well received.”

ICC Cricket World Cup organisers will now work closely with the Christchurch City Council, Canterbury Cricket and other key stakeholder to understand the implications of the various conditions imposed on the redevelopment by the Environment Court.

One of seven New Zealand host cities, Christchurch was awarded the tournament’s opening match and host high-profile clashes either side of the fourth anniversary of the Canterbury earthquake. Its scheduled fixtures are:
  • Sri Lanka v New Zealand (Saturday 14 February)
  • Pakistan v West Indies (Saturday 21 February)
  • England v Qualifier 3 (Monday 23 February)

Christchurch was also awarded four warm up games and will play a key role in a World Cup qualifying tournament to be held in New Zealand in February next year.
