The Royal couple will visit Sydney for a special tournament countdown event on 16 April.

Their Royal Highnesses will be met by Australian cricket legend Glenn McGrath and Southern Stars all-rounder Ellyse Perry in a special event at the Sydney Opera House which will showcase the tournament and participating nations.

Three-time champion and leading wicket taker in ICC Cricket World Cup history McGrath and Perry, the youngest Australian to play international cricket, will be joined by ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 CEO John Harnden and Cricket Australia Director Michael Kasprowicz in meeting the Royal couple.

The event will highlight the diversity of cricket as the Royal couple will be greeted by children from the 14 participating nations.

Said Mr Harnden: “Like many other sports, cricket has the ability to bring communities together regardless of a person’s background.

“It is a privilege to have the royal couple helping to celebrate the diversity in cricket and in communities across Australia and New Zealand. At the ICC Cricket World Cup in February and March next year we want the communities of all those teams playing to celebrate their culture and traditions as well as the game of cricket.”
