Sri Lanka beats Bangladesh by 13 runs in the first ODI.

Thisara Perera smashed an unbeaten 80 off 57 balls to inspire a 13-run win for Sri Lanka over Bangladesh in the first One-Day International in Dhaka on Monday (February 17).

The win gave Sri Lanka a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series, after the match was reduced to 43 overs a side due to a wet outfield.

Sri Lanka was struggling at 67 for 8 in the 22nd over after Bangladesh's bowlers had made early inroads. Perera propelled Sri Lanka with a 82-run stand for the ninth wicket with Sachithra Senanayake. Sri Lanka put on 113 runs for the last two wickets before it folded for 180.

With a defendable score, Sri Lanka bowled Bangladesh out for 167 in the 40th over. Bangladesh was cruising at 114 for 2 in the 20th over, owing to Shamsur Rahman's 62 off 49 balls and 44 from Mominul Haque.

Once Mominul was dismissed by Perera, Bangladesh's batting collapsed spectacularly.

Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews, claimed three wickets while off-spinner Senanayake picked up two as Bangladesh lost eight wickets for 53 runs and lost the ODI by 13 runs.

The second and third matches will be played at the same venue on Thursday and Saturday.
