The fifth LG ICC Awards 2008 will take place at The Westin Hotel, Dubai this evening (Wednesday). The function will start at 2030 Dubai time (1630 GMT) while the guests will start arriving at 1930 Dubai time (1530 GMT).

The following are the media arrangements:

Registration: Media that have already registered to attend will get the chance to cover the event and can collect their accreditation cards from the media centre between 1800 and 1930.

Fast-breaking: Iftar arrangements have been made in the media dining area. Fast-breaking time in Dubai on 10 September is 1830. A buffet meal will also be served from 1930.

Media opportunities: There will be two main opportunities for media on the night. Access will be granted as the players and guests arrive at the venue and there will be media conferences held with the winners on a rolling basis as the awards are presented.

Media Centre: A media centre will operate on the night for working journalists. This will include wireless internet, desks, TV screens with a direct feed from the main function area, press conference facilities and ICC staff available to provide assistance. Journalists and photographers in the media centre DO NOT have to wear black-tie attire as the access to the main function area is strictly limited.

Photography: Only the ICC's official photographer, Getty Images, will have access to the main function area to obtain pictures from inside the function. However, Getty Images will be providing an assortment of shots from inside the ceremony venue free of charge to other media organisations. These images will be sent out via Getty usual feed, a pool feed to all major photography agencies and also the shots will be posted on the Getty website for free download. All other photographers will have access to the arrival of the guests and to the media conferences that will follow the presentation of each award.

Footage: SNTV has confirmed it will be producing a video news release and sending it out after the conclusion of the ceremony.

The coverage, produced by the ICC’s broadcast and production partner ESPN STAR Sports, will be shown by 10 broadcasters. The details of the timings of broadcasts can be found at:

The Event: This year’s LG ICC Awards includes eight individual prizes, including a new one for the Twenty20 International Performance of the Year. It also features the selection of the Test and ODI Teams of the Year and the award to the side that has adhered most to the Spirit of Cricket.

The nominations for six of the awards were made by a five-man ICC selection panel chaired by West Indies legend Clive Lloyd. The panel also includes former Australia captain Greg Chappell, recently retired South Africa all-rounder Shaun Pollock, former Sri Lanka opener Sidath Wettimuny and former Bangladesh batsman Athar Ali Khan. This panel will also select the ICC Test and ODI teams of the year.

The winners of these six individual awards have been voted upon by a 25-person panel from around the world, made up of renowned former players, respected members of the media, and an elite umpire and elite match referee.

Meanwhile, the nominations for the Women’s Cricketer of the Year Award were decided after each of the world’s top 10 teams was given the opportunity to nominate two players. This award was voted on by a separate 16-person voting academy featuring former players and other experts on the women’s game. The Spirit of Cricket Award was voted on by all the international captains as well as all members of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires and Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees. The Umpire of the Year Award is voted on by the captains and the match referees.

Based on the 12 months between 9 August 2007 and 12 August 2008, the LG ICC Awards 2008 – presented in association with FICA – will take into account performances by players and officials in a remarkable period for the game. That period includes the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 2007 in South Africa.
