Sarel Burger and Wian van Vuuren both smashed half centuries on the first day of the ICC Intercontinental Shield match between Namibia and United Arab Emirates played at Wanderers Cricket Ground, Windhoek on Saturday
Batting first, Namibia finished the day with a total of 255 for the loss of five wickets in 96 overs. Burger smashed 65 in 179 balls and Vuuren 55 in 122 balls with valuable contribution from skipper Craig Williams (36 in 75 balls). Opening batsmen Raymond van Schoor chipped in with 32 in 57 balls.
Qasim Zubair was the pick of the bowlers on the opening day with two dismissals including openers Schoor and Willem Groenewald (10). Shoaib Sarwar, Fayyaz Ahmed and Arfan Haider also shared a wicket each.
The ICC Intercontinental Shield is contested by Bermuda, Namibia, Uganda and the UAE, and will see a final played in Dubai from 25-28 November 2010. Uganda beat Bermuda by seven wickets in the only match on the competition played to date, which took place in August 2009.
