A fine century by Craig Ervine put Zimbabwe XI in control against Netherlands on the opening day of the ICC Intercontinental Cup played at VRA, Amstelveen on Sunday.

Electing to bat first, the visitors lost quick early wickets to Berend Westdijk (4-46) as it struggled to 8-3. Stuart Matsikenyeri brought some stability to the innings with 44 runs before Ervine smashed 145 to dominate the opening day.

The African side was dismissed at 298 all out in 89 overs. Dutch skipper Peter Borren (3-61) and debutant Bernard Loots (2-48) shared the remaining wickets between them.

The hosts replied weakly losing its opening two wickets for only seven runs on the board.

Netherlands is currently fifth in the ICC Intercontinental Cup points table with 15 points from four games - losing to Afghanistan by one wicket, Kenya by five wickets and Scotland by four wickets, and a drawn match against Canada. Zimbabwe XI is placed fourth in the points table with 23 points from two games which includes a five-wicket win over Kenya and a drawn match against Afghanistan.
