The Netherlands lost early wickets as Zimbabwe XI continued to maintain its hold on the third day of the ICC Intercontinental Cup match played at VRA, Amstelveen on Tuesday.

Zimbabwe XI extended its lead over the Netherlands by 417 runs in its second innings, beginning the day on 79-2 in 23 overs. Stuart Matsikenyeri (68), skipper Vusi Sibanda (88), Craig Ervine (59 not out) and Regis Chakabva (54 not out) scored half-centuries as the visitors declared 305-5 in 70.3 overs.

The hosts faltered early on, struggling at 14-2 in the eighth over. Opener Eric Swarczynski piled on an unbeaten 60 runs to lift his side to 134-4 in 37.4 overs along with Wesley Barresi, who made 33. Ed Rainsford was the pick of the bowlers taking 2-21.

Netherlands is currently fifth in the ICC Intercontinental Cup points table with 15 points from four games - losing to Afghanistan by one wicket, Kenya by five wickets and Scotland by four wickets, and a drawn match against Canada. Zimbabwe XI is placed fourth in the points table with 23 points from two games which includes a five-wicket win over Kenya and a drawn match against Afghanistan.
