An all-round display by hosts UAE helped it regain control on the third day of the ICC Intercontinental Shield game against Uganda played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

Right-arm medium pacer Amjad Javed picked up a four-wicket haul while left-arm spinner Fayyaz Ahmed took three wickets to help dismiss Uganda to 373 all out in 127.4 overs earlier in the day. Lawrence Sematimba top-scored with his 89 while skipper Akbar Baig (51), Ronald Ssemanda (41) and Benjamin Musoke (40) also chipped in with valuable runs to give Uganda a 12-run lead in the first innings.

UAE lost an early wicket in the second innings with Arfan Haider dismissed for nine runs in the seventh over. Arshad Ali smashed an unbeaten half-century and was well supported by Saqib Ali (33 not out) to give UAE a 90-run lead on the third day.

The two teams fight it out with the winner claiming the top spot in the ICC Intercontinental Shield standings. Uganda is currently top of the table at 20 points after an outright win over Bermuda by seven wickets in August 2009 while UAE is second after its win over Namibia by four wickets in December.

The four-team ICC Intercontinental Shield competition will see a final played in Dubai from 25-28 November 2010.
