Scotland beat Netherlands by four wickets

Scotland triumph after late scare - Cricket News
Scotland beat Netherlands by four wickets despite a dramatic second innings collapse on the final day of the Intercontinental Cup match in Deventer.

The home side began the day trailing by 13 runs with just two second innings wickets left, staring what seemed like an inevitable defeat in the face.

Captain Peter Borren was joined by Pieter Seelaar in a stand of 67 for the ninth-wicket but it appeared it was too little too late for the Dutch.

Borren was the ninth wicket to fall, after a valiant 109, before Seelaar was left stranded on 30 not out when last man Berend Westdijk was dismissed for a 28-ball duck.

Netherlands were eventually all out for 257, leaving Scotland with what appeared the formality of 77 for victory in their second innings.

That was to underestimate the efforts of Dutch seam bowler Mark Jonkman, who was chiefly instrumental in reducing the visitors to 18-6.

The right-armer bowled right through to return figures of 12-3-21-5 but it was not enough to pull off a dramatic victory.

Neil McCallum (34 not out) and Majid Haq (34 not out) shared in an unbeaten seventh-wicket stand of 59 to see their team home as the visitors managed to avert a late twist in the tale.
