Defending champions Afghanistan kickstarted its campaign in ICC Intercontinental Cup 2011-2013 with a convincing nine-wicket win over hosts Canada at King City.

On the fourth and final day, Canada resumed its innings at the overnight score of 176 for seven. But the side was very quickly bowled out for 231. Only Harvir Baidwan (50: 151b, 6x4) offered any resistance. Baidwan's 52-run stand for the eighth wicket with Khurram Chohan delayed the inevitable.

Hamid Hassan ended with figures of 3-24 and Dawlat Zadran had figures of 3-39 to show for.

With an overall lead of a mere 68, Canada did not have much to defend as Afghanistan set about registering win. Karim Sadiq remained unbeaten on 37 off 37 balls with four boundaries to seal the win for Afghanistan.

Hamid Hassan was named Man of the Match for his match haul of 10-85. Afghanistan also pocketed 20 points for the outright win.
