Hosts Scotland earned a narrow 15-run win over the Netherlands in the first ODI of the ICC Intercontinental Cup 50-over league at Aberdeen on Tuesday.

After opting to bat first, Scotland posted 255 for 7 in its 50 overs and then restricted Netherlands to 240 in 49 overs.

Earlier, opener Kyle Coetzer (64: 92b, 5x4) led the charge for the home team. Fraser Watts (33), Callum MacLeod (35) and Preston Mommsen (34) played a crucial hands as the hosts built a challenging total.

For Netherlands, skipper Peter Borren (3-52) and Tom Heggleman (3-29) shared the wickets around.

In its chase, Neil Kruger (34) shared a crucial 60-run stand for the second with Alexei Kervezee (49). Later Netherlands reached an impressive 157 for 3 in the 34th over.

At this stage, Tom Cooper (75: 103b, 2x4, 1x6) seemed to be steering Netherlands home. But a late-order collapse meant that Mudassar Bukhari (41: 34b, 3x4, 3x6) had to use the long handle.

Bukhari-Cooper stand for the seventh wicket was worth 59 runs. But in the end Cooper was left waging a lone battle and was the last man out as Netherlands lost by 15 runs.

For Scotland, Majid Haq (4-33) and Josh Davey (3-27) were the main wicket-takers.
