Scotland edged past host United Arab Emirates on the opening day of the ICC Intercontinental Cup match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.

UAE after opting to bat was bowled out for 100 and in its reply, Scotland ended the day's play at 121 for 5.

Earlier, disciplined new ball bowling by Gordon Goudie (3-22) and Safyaan Sharif (3-27) struck at regular intervals. Only Khurram Khan (22) and Amjad Javed (24) played knocks of any significance.

Majid Haq with figures of 2-14 was the other wicket-taker for Scotland.

In its reply, Scotland lost early wickets. But a 52-run stand between Preston Mommsen and Majid Haq revived the innings. But the middle-order caved in towards the close of play.

Freddie Coleman fell in the last over of the day to even out the honours on the opening day.
