Cricket Australia (CA) today announced that Townsville will host an U19 International Quadrangular Series in April between Australia, England, India and New Zealand.

Tony Ireland Stadium and Endeavour Park will be the host venues for the four competing nations, who will use the tournament as a key warm-up event ahead of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in Queensland in August this year.

The Quad Series will conclude with semi-finals on Friday 13 April and finals on Sunday 15 April and all matches are limited-overs using standard ICC One-Day International playing conditions.

CA General Manager Operations, Geoff Allardice said the series would provide Townsville and Queensland Cricket a terrific opportunity as they prepare to host ICC U19 Cricket World Cup matches.

"Townsville is one of the three key centres that will host ICC U19 Cricket World Cup matches and I'm sure they are looking forward to welcoming teams for this Quad Series in April as they prepare for the main event in August," Allardice said.

"Townsville has played host to Australia A matches and interstate matches in the past so we know the community loves their cricket and I'm sure they will embrace this series which will showcase the next David Warner.

"We appreciate the support of Queensland Cricket and the Townsville community in hosting this Quad Series and we have no doubt that all teams and their staff will enjoy their time in the sunshine state, getting a feel for the surroundings and conditions ahead of the return trip in August," he said.

Squads will be announced closer to the tournament.

The following umpires have been selected to officiate the Quad Series matches.

Mike Graham-Smith (TAS)

Jay Kangur (QLD)

Simon Lightbody (ACT)

Richard Patterson (VIC)

These umpires have been selected based on their performances at the recent Cricket Australia National U19 Championship in Adelaide. The performance of the eight participating umpires was outstanding throughout the championship, however the Umpire High Performance Panel believed these four selected umpires deserved to be rewarded with this opportunity of officiating at the U19 international level.

Townsville, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast will be the three host regions for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2012 with more than 400 cricketers from 14 nations converging on Australia's sunshine state.

It will be the second time the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup has been held in Australia, after the inaugural event in 1988, and will showcase the world's best emerging players, broadcasting their talents around the globe to millions of television viewers in India, England, New Zealand and South Africa amongst many others via ESPN STAR SPORTS.

Australia is the reigning ICC U19 World Cup winner, after the Mitchell Marsh-led squad won the trophy at the last event in New Zealand in January 2010.
