Newly appointed ACC Development Officer Venkatapathi Raju has been in Bangkok working with the U-19s ahead of the upcoming ACC U-19 Elite Cup. Raju has replaced Venkatesh Prasad and will be looking after Thailand, Bahrain, Qatar and UAE along with some High Performance programs for the ACC. Along with the U-19 boys, Raju was working with the national women's team in preparation for the World Cup Qualifiers in Ireland later this year.

Thailand's U-19 boys team comprises of majority Thai national players from around Thailand who are currently in Bangkok under a camp. Raju is already impressed with the overall quality and team spirit among the boys. The boys played a few matches with a strong navy team from Sri Lanka which built the teams overall confidence and sportsmanship.

National coaches Shan Kader and Shafiqul Haque Titas also learned a lot from Raju with respect to new theories, ideologies and drills. Nets and 'game sense' sessions have been organized to build team work, deeper understanding of the game and overall strategy. Raju gave the players and coaches a great deal of technical information in the mechanics of batting, bowling and fielding, but also stressed that attention must be given to overall fitness and concentration on the field. Every player had one on one coaching sessions and Raju created real match situations so the players could put his instructions into action.

The ACC U-19 Elite is being held in Malaysia from the 3rd to 11th of May, where Thailand will look to achieve a high finish like the women's team in the last ACC Women's Championship. "The Thai boys have the potential to do better in future and if they continue the same level of cricket in their mind. Consistent training and games will make them better as individuals and as a team. As a developing country Thailand is doing excellent work in educating ethnics across Thailand. The girls are exceptionally good and improving day by day." said Raju.
