Defending champion Afghanistan is just one wicket away from its third win in the ICC Intercontinental Cup, against Scotland at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

The star just like on the first day was fast bowler Izatullah Dawlatzai who picked five for 37 in the second innings to follow up his first innings effort of six for 57.

Earlier, Afghanistan resumed at its overnight score of 150 for four in response to Scotland's 125 on the second day on Wednesday.

Debutant Rahmat Shah (67: 196b, 8x4) remained unbeaten as Afghanistan, was finally bowled out for 275 in 102.3 overs to end with a lead of 150. Josh Davey (4-53), Gordon Drummond (2-35) and Majid Haq (2-36) were the key wicket-takers for Scotland.

The best stand in the Afghanistan innings was between Rahmat Shah and Mohammad Shahzad (41) who aligned themselves in a fifth wicket stand of 67 runs.

Scotland in its response lost wickets at regular intervals and ended the day at 144 for nine, still six runs behind Afghanistan.

The top and middle-order of Scotland was laid low by incisive spells of Dawlat Zadran (3-50) and Dawlatzai (5-37). Kyle Coetzer (57: 124b, 12x4) played a lone hand.

Coetzer was the eighth man out in the second innings for Scotland. Towards the end of the day's play, Gordon Goudie fell to open the doors for an Afghanistan win.
