Ed Joyce and Niall O'Brien slammed hundreds as Ireland took total control of its ICC Intercontinental Cup match against host United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the second day at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Joyce made 155 (172b, 15x4, 2x6) and O'Brien weighed in with 126 off 234 balls with 10 boundaries and a six as Ireland piled on the runs to declare at 589 for seven.

When stumps were drawn, UAE ended at 56 for one, still 533 runs behind Ireland.

Joyce and O'Brien also added 181 runs for the third wicket as Ireland gained command.

Ireland resumed play at its overnight score of 272 for two.

UAE bowlers could not make any impact with only skipper Khurram Khan (2-48) and Ahmed Raza (2-159) picking up w2ickets.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Gary Wilson (84: 136b, 9x4, 1x6) played a good hand as well as Ireland piled on the runs.

Ireland finally declared with an unbeaten Kevin O'Brien at the crease.

In its reply, UAE finished at 56 for one, for the loss of Safdar Niazi.
