Jersey secures third win after easy contest against Nigeria, Argentina and Vanuatu post second wins
Vanuatu survived against Bahrain, Jersey eased past Nigeria and Argentina secured a nervy win against Kuwait in the three Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 6 matches on Wednesday (July 24).
Against Bahrain, Vanuatu was put in to bat and notched up 244 in 49.4 overs. That was largely thanks to Andrew Mansale, the captain, who scored a 119-ball 111. Bahrain’s most successful bowler was Mirza Baig, who returned figures of 4 for 52. In its reply, Bahrain was bowled out for 209, with both Aby John and Nalin Nipiko claiming three wickets each for Vanatu.
Elsewhere, despite winning the toss and opting to bat, Nigeria was bowled out for just 96 in 40.1 overs, with Ricky Sharma top-scoring with 53. For Jersey, Ben Stevens was the most successful bowler, returning figures of 3 for 10. In its reply, Jersey lost four wickets but got to their target in 22.1 overs, ending with a total 100 for 4. Saheed Akolade was Nigeria’s best bowler, returning figures of 3 for 26.
The game between Argentina and Kuwait went down to the wire. Batting first, Kuwait rode on Saud Qamar’s 99-ball 83 to notch up 205 in 44.2 overs. Argentina’s most successful bowler was Lucas Paterlini, who returned figures of 4 for 45. In their chase, Argentina was carried by Martin Siri’s 76-ball 59, but then lost a flurry of wickets to go nine down. However, August Casime helped them cross the target with just three balls remaining.
