Ben Stevens and Peter Gough of Jersey continue their consistent run bringing their team a seven wicket victory
Jersey beat Vanuatu, Bahrain got the better of Kuwait and Nigeria strolled past Argentina in the three Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 6 matches on Sunday (July 28).
Jersey and Nigeria have now been promoted to Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5, scheduled to be held in early 2014 in Malaysia.
Vanuatu will stay on in Division six, while the other sides go back to the regional divisions.
In its game against Jersey, Vanuatu opted to bat and put up 189 for 9 in 50 overs, with Trevor Langa top-scoring with 82. For Jersey, Ben Stevens was the most successful bowler, returning figures of 3 for 21. In its reply, Jersey totalled 193 for 3 to win by seven wickets, with Peter Gough top-scoring with 57.
Elsewhere, Nigeria chose to field first and bowled out Argentina for 185 in 46 overs, with Oluseye Olympio returning stunning figures of 6 for 23. Lucas Paterlini was Argentina’s top-scorer with 48. In response, Segun Olayinka scored an unbeaten 94 as Nigeria won by eight wickets.
The game between Bahrain and Kuwait was a tight one. Though it opted to bat, Bahrain never really got going and was bowled out for 186 in 48 overs. Shahzad Ahmed was the top-scorer of the innings with his 46, while Raheel Khan was Kuwait’s best bowler, returning figures of 3 for 20. Chasing 187, Kuwait got off to stuttering start and never recovered. It was bowled out for 171, 15 runs short of the target, with Azmatullah Nazeer, the lower-order batsman, scoring highest with 48.
