Afghanistan cruises to 10-wicket win with a day to spare

Afghanistan was dominant on day three of its Intercontinental Cup match against Namibia, in Windhoek on Tuesday (August 6), winning by 10 wickets with a day to spare.

The Afghans managed to add only nine runs to their overnight tally of 345 for 8 before folding with a first-innings lead of 164 runs. But the Namibian second innings got off to a bad start when Xander Pitchers, the opener, was bowled by Rahmat Shah for nine runs. Pikky Ya France steadied the innings with a 110-ball 34 but wickets kept tumbling at the other end as the Afghan bowlers put up a disciplined performance.

Unbeaten on 44, Sarel Burger was the only other batsman to pick up some runs as Namibia was bowled out for 168. Medium-pacer Izatullah Dawlatzai was the pick of the Afghan bowlers, clinching a five-wicket haul, including a hat-trick to clean up the Namibian lower order. Dawlat Zadran, Samiullah Shenwari, Mohammad Nabi, Rahmat Shah and Shapoor Zadran picked up a wicket each. Afghanistan needed a mere five runs for victory, which it achieved in just seven balls.

The win in Windhoek means Afghanistan retains its second spot in the ICC Intercontinental Cup points table behind Ireland.
