UAE cruised to victory against Namibia on Day 2 of a four-day fixture.
United Arab Emirates ended proceedings of a four-day fixture on day 2 of the ICC Intercontinental Cup at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Monday (September 23), cruising to a nine-wicket win against Namibia.

UAE ended day 1 on 161 for 5 with a lead of 71, but managed to add only another 69 before being bowled out on day 2, with five of their remaining six batsmen failing to reach double figures. However, Swapnil Patil (46) notched up a 40-run partnership with Ahmed Raza (25) for the eighth wicket to guide them to 230.

Christi Viljoen dismissed the last four out of five batsmen to finish with figures of 4 for 32, while JJ Smit took 3 for 33.

With a 140-run lead, UAE had Namibia reeling in the second innings at 67 for 6, until a crucial 60-run stand for the seventh wicket between Nicolaas Scholtz (31) and Louis van der Westhuizen (49) saw them avert an innings defeat.

Namibia was finally dismissed for 155 in 60.5 overs in its second innings after being bowled out for 90 in the first. Nasir Aziz picked up his first five-wicket haul in first-class matches and Shadeep Silva picked up three wickets.

Needing 16 to win, Shaiman Anwar fell for a first-ball duck, but Saqib Shah and Saqib Ali took UAE across the finish line in 3.3 overs to seal a nine-wicket victory.

Brief scores: Namibia 90 all out in 48.4 overs (Jaen Kotze 19; Ahmed Raza 7-37) and 155 all out in 60.5 overs (Louis van der Westhuizen 49, Nicolaas Scholtz 31; Nasir Aziz 5-48) lost to UAE 230 in 66.4 overs (Shaiman Anwar 81, Khurram Khan 49; Christi Viljoen 4-32) and 17/1 in 3.3 overs (Saqib Ali 14*) by nine wickets.
