UAE hands Namibia crushing defeat

Defending 197, UAE bowlers successfully restrict Namibia to disappointing 39

UAE hands Namibia crushing defeat - Cricket News
UAE's clinical performance saw it register a thumping 158-run victory over Namibia in the first of its two must-win matches.
United Arab Emirates secured a thumping 158-run victory over Namibia in the 53rd World Cricket League (WCL) Championship match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday (September 27). Shadeep Silva, Ahmed Raza and Khurram Khan picked up three wickets each to dismiss Namibia for paltry 39 runs after UAE posted a total of 197.

Sent in to bat, UAE lost opener Mohammad Azam early in its innings but treaded on with a 69-ball 54 from Shaiman Anwar. Tiaan Snyman and Louis van der Westhuizen picked up wickets in the middle overs but captain Mohammad Shafiq hit a quickfire 43 to take the hosts to 197 in 46.1 overs. Van der Westhuizen was the pick of the bowlers returning figures of 3 for 31.

Namibia made a mess of what seemed like an easy chase as Silva and Mohammad Naveed removed the top four batsmen for 20 runs inside 11 overs. It could not recover from the early blows as Raza and Khurram then ran through the middle and lower order without letting any batsmen reach double figures. Namibia eventually folded for 39 runs in 24.4 overs with opener Xander Pitchers top scoring with 13.

Khurram returned the best bowling figures of the match picking up three wickets for just 2 runs in 4.4 overs.

The two teams will meet again for their final WCL match on Sunday (September 29).

Brief Scores: United Arab Emirates 197 all out in 46.1 overs (Shaiman Anwar 54, Mohammad Shafiq 43; Louis van der Westhuizen 3-31, Tiaan Snyman 2-12) beat Namibia 39 all out in 24.4 overs (Xander Pitchers 13; Khurram Khan 3-2, Shadeep Silva 3-11, Ahmed Raza 3-13) by 158 runs.
