Amjad’s five-for takes Hong Kong home

Italy fails to overcome batting collapse, loses by seven wickets

Amjad’s five-for takes Hong Kong home - Cricket News
Led by opener Waqas Barkat’s unbeaten 51, Hong Kong reached the target with eight deliveries to spare.
Hong Kong registered a comfortable seven-wicket win over Italy in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier Group A tie at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium Nursery 1 in Abu Dhabi on Friday (November 15).

Put in to bat, Italy quickly found itself in trouble, losing four wickets for just 29 runs in 7.2 overs. Carl Sandri (41) and Mick Raso (24) led Italy’s recovery with a 65-run partnership off 62 balls. But Hong Kong bowlers took wickets at regular intervals following Raso’s dismissal. Italy eventually finished with 110 for 8 after 20 overs. Haseeb Amjad impressed with his right-arm medium-fast bowling, returning figures of 5 for 12 off his four overs. Tanwir Afzal was impressive too, finishing with 2 for 12 off his four, while Munir Dar picked the important wicket of Sandri.

Hong Kong faced no difficulties in chasing the modest target. Led by opener Waqas Barkat’s unbeaten 51, Hong Kong reached the target with eight deliveries to spare. Barkat was well supported by Nizakat Khan, the right-hand batsman, who remained unbeaten on 17, while Irfan Ahmed, Jamie Atkinson and Mark Chapman, chipped in with cameos of 12 each.
