Former West Indies batsman Stuart Williams says he is pleased to work with the West Indies team as one of the Assistant Coaches for the upcoming tour of New Zealand.

The 44-year-old cut his teeth as a coach with the Leeward Islands, West Indies Under-19s and West Indies A Team, and is now looking forward to the chance to work at the highest level.

“I’m a worker...I love the game of cricket and I love to work so this a natural fit for me. I am really delighted to be given this opportunity to work with the West Indies team and I’m looking forward to this up-coming series here (in New Zealand),” Williams told WICB Media.

“I felt I did some good work during my time with the Under-19s, working alongside Roddy Estwick, and with the A Team, working with Hendy Springer and Junior Bennett.

“This tour will be a chance to make another contribution. I have worked with just about everyone on the group, so I know them and they know me.”

Williams played 31 Tests and 57 One-Day Internationals for West Indies between 1994 and 2002. He captained Nevis and Leeward Islands in a regional career which spanned 1987 to 2004, during which time he made 25 first-class centuries.

West Indies will play three Test matches, five One-Day Internationals and two T20 Internationals against New Zealand in the coming weeks.
