Prasanna Jayawardene, the wicketkeeper-batsman earns Test team call up.
Sachithra Senanayake, the offspinner, and Dilruwan Perera, the allrounder, earned a maiden call-up to the Sri Lanka Test side, while Vishwa Fernando, the left-arm pacer, was recalled in a 16-man squad for Sri Lanka’s upcoming three-Test series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.
Fernando, who had been brought in as a cover during Sri Lanka’s 2011-12 tour of South Africa, made his first-class debut in January 2012 and took 26 wickets in his inaugural season at 39.19. He took only seven wickets in the next season, but his average came down to 25.57, and included a five-wicket haul.
Prasanna Jayawardene, the wicketkeeper-batsman, was also recalled by the selection committee in the squad named on Monday (December 23). Jayawardene, who last played a Test match in December 2012 during Sri Lanka’s tour of Australia, was subsequently left out of the squad in a bid to give youngsters an opportunity.
Angelo Mathews will lead the team, while Dinesh Chandimal will serve as his deputy. The first Test starts on December 31, 2013 in Abu Dhabi.
