New Zealand Women start as favourite

Sri Lanka Women will be quietly confident of a good show in qualification match for ICC Women's World Twenty20 2016

New Zealand Women start as favourite - Cricket News
New Zealand Women face off against Sri Lanka Women in the WT20 2016 Qualification play-off.
Coming into the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 2014, New Zealand Women would have fancied its chances of a semi-final spot. New Zealand had done well against the West Indies Women, and in Suzie Bates, it had an inspirational and in-form captain.
Bates led from the front for most of the campaign, but a loss against South Africa Women  in what was a virtual quarter-final and a net run-rate shootout meant New Zealand fell just short of the final four, though it had the same points as South Africa and Australia Women in Group A, each side gathering six points from four matches.
This has put New Zealand in a qualification match for the ICC Women's World Twenty20 2016 against Sri Lanka Women on Wednesday (April 2) at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. New Zealand will be the favourite in this match, but Sri Lanka has given a good account of itself in the World T20 so far too.
Sri Lanka lost to Bangladesh Women on Tuesday in a closely fought match, but will draw strength from its opening match victory against India Women. Captain Shashikala Siriwardene, the captain, will have much the same role for Sri Lanka as Bates has for New Zealand.
On paper, New Zealand’s greater experience and firepower will present Sri Lanka with a tough challenge, but given that the women’s tournament has already seen its share of upsets, with several teams that might have been thought of as underdog doing very well, no team will relax until the final ball is bowled.
