PNG beats Uganda by nine wickets - Cricket News
Lega Siaka and Assad Vala shared an unbeaten 98-run stand for the second wicket.
Papua New Guinea registered another convincing win in Group B of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier when it beat Uganda by nine wickets at New Plymouth on Thursday (January 16).
Charles Amini led PNG's attack with a six-wicket haul as Uganda was bowled out for 105 in 35.5 overs. PNG chased down the target with ease as Lega Siaka followed up his unbeaten century in the first match with an unbeaten half-century to take his team past the target in just 17 overs.
Put in, Uganda's openers Roger Mukasa and Abram Mutyagaba put on their second fifty-run stand in the tournament. But once Amini bowled Mutyagaba in the twelfth over for 15, a flurry of wickets followed, with Amini sending back Mukasa for 33 in his following over.
Amini returned in the 20th over to dismiss Hamza Saleh and Phillimon Selowa off consecutive deliveries, and with Benjamin Musoke's wicket, he had Uganda reeling at 80 for 5. The partnership of 20 between Saleh and Selowa was the last of the innings of any worth.
The lower order managed to put up 25 runs before Mahuru Dai wrapped up Uganda's innings with his second wicket.
Siaka and Assad Vala shared an unbeaten 98-run stand for the second wicket after the dismissal of opener Tony Ura for four in the second over, seeing the PNG innings through to the end.
Siaka remained unbeaten on 65 off 55 balls, hitting eight fours and two sixes, while Vala's unbeaten 37 came off 40 balls, with eight fours and six sixes. Patrick Ochan got the lone wicket to fall.
PNG will look to continue its good run in as it takes on Netherlands in its next match on Sunday, while Uganda will be determined to put up a better show in its clash against Kenya on the same day.
