Khurram ton gives UAE 150-run win

Bowlers wreak havoc in PNG's camp after UAE posts 280 to complete convincing victory

Khurram ton gives UAE 150-run win - Cricket News
Dayle Hadlee (R) of Canterbury Cricket presents Khurram Khan (L) of UAE with the man of the match award.
Khurram Khan struck his fourth List A century to hand The United Arab Emirates a convincing 150-run victory in its Super Sixes clash against Papua New Guinea in Christchurch on Saturday (January 26).

Asked to bat first, UAE found itself in a spot of bother at 57 for 3 in 10 overs, before Khurram featured in fifty-plus partnerships with Swapnil Patil, Rohan Mustafa and Vikrant Shetty to take the side close to the 250-run mark.

Khurram scored 138 off 145 balls, hitting 17 fours and two sixes, before being dismissed by medium pacer Willie Gavera in the 44th over. UAE eventually folded for 280 in 48.3 overs. Gavera was the pick of the PNG bowlers returning figures of 3 for 39 while Pipi Raho and Norman Vanua bagged two wickets each.

PNG suffered a blow off the very first ball when in-form batsman Lega Siaka was caught behind by Patil off the bowling of Mohammed Naved. Manjula Guruge caused further damage to the chase removing Assad Vala for 13 in the fourth over. PNG was unable to consolidate its innings from this point onwards and slumped to 45 for 5 inside 12 overs.

Chris Amini and Charles Amini put together a sixth-wicket partnership of 58, before medium pacer Amjad Javed removed Chris for 17 in the 23rd over. Charles continued the fight with a gritty innings of 49 off 44 balls, including six fours and a six, but failed to avoid defeat as only two other batsmen managed to reach double digits. Javed was the best bowler for UAE bagging 4 for 26 in 9.3 overs, as PNG were all out for 130 in 28.3 overs.

U.A.E goes on to play Kenya in its next match in Christchurch on Tuesday, as PNG look to recover from the loss and put up a better show in the other clash of the day against Scotland in Lincoln.
