Scotland registered its second win in the tournament after it beat Papua New Guinea.
Scotland registered its second win in the tournament when it beat Papua New Guinea by 77 runs in the 13th-place playoff semi-final of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2014 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium Nursery 1 in Abu Dhabi on Monday (February 24).

A century-run stand between captain Ross McLean and Michael English took Scotland to 209 before it was bowled out in 48.3 overs. PNG was never in the chase after losing half its side within 17 overs, before eventually being bundled for 132 in 43.3 overs.

Opting to bat, Scotland was pegged on the back foot after it lost both openers within the first six overs in the span of four balls. McLean and English then batted for almost half the innings, sharing a much-needed 101-run stand for the third wicket before Nosaina Pokana bowled McLean for 41.

Thereafter, Scotland lost wickets at regular intervals, even as English shared a 28-run stand with Will Edwards for the seventh wicket before he was run out by Dogodo Bau for 72. Edwards and Gavin Main added 25 more towards the end.

After that, Chayank Gosain and Main made early inroads dismissing Kiplin Doriga and Bau in quick succession. Wickets tumbled as Mark Watt, Gosain and McLean kept the pressure on the PNG batsmen. The three of them accounted for eight of the ten wickets to fall.

The highest partnership of the innings came when Allan Joseph (26) and Kabua Morea (7) came together for the ninth wicket and shared a 34-run stand. The resistance ended when Morea was bowled by McLean, who picked up his third wicket after dismissing Joseph in his following over.

Watt finished with three wickets in his ten overs, while Gosain picked up two.

Scotland will next face Namibia on February 26 in Abu Dhabi in the final of the 13th-place playoff after Namibia beat Canada by 23 runs.
