McClure stars in New Zealand win - Cricket News
Ken McClure's unbeaten 62 off 68 led New Zealand's victory over UAE.
New Zealand registered a five-wicket win over the United Arab Emirates in the second Plate semi-final at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2014 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday (February 25).
A combined effort by New Zealand's bowlers restricted UAE to 140 in 49.2 overs,  which turned out to be an easy task for New Zealand's batsmen, who finished at 141 for 5 in 30.2 overs.
Asked to bat, UAE got off to a slow start and was further pegged on the back foot after it lost both openers, Shiv Mehra and Dan D'Souza, within the span of six runs in the twelfth over, with only 32 on the board.

It kept losing wickets at regular intervals thereafter. The highest partnership came late in the innings when Moaaz Qazi (21) and Omer Mohammed (19) came together to share a 36-run stand for the eighth wicket.

The resistance ended when Josh Finnie took a return catch to dismiss Qazi and returned to dismiss Mohammed in his following over.

UAE was eventually bowled out in the final over when Justin James was run out. Jeremy Benton and Finnie picked up two wickets each, while Kyle Jamieson, Jack Hunter, Dane Watson and Henry Collier chipped in with a wicket each.

Chasing 141 to win, New Zealand got off to a good start. The openers, Collier and Raki Weerasundara set the tone for the innings by scoring quickly and laid the foundation for what would turn out to be a comfortable chase. Pankaj Prakash provided the breakthrough in the sixth over by dismissing Collier for 9.

Although wickets fell at regular intervals, the batsmen kept the run rate going. Ken McClure's unbeaten 62 off 68 balls eventually took New Zealand home.
