Faf du Plessis scored his third ODI century in four matches to put South Africa on course for a 63-run win over Zimbabwe on Thursday (September 4) to confirm its place in the tri-series final against Australia.

Du Plessis scored 121 in 140 balls as South Africa posted 271 for 6 after being put in to bat and then dismissed Zimbabwe for 208 to emerge the comfortable victor.

Zimbabwe had to chase down the target in 25.2 overs to gain a bonus point and improve its Net Run Rate sufficiently to knock South Africa out, but it didn't even come close to winning with Brendan Taylor's 79 being the only score of note.

Du Plessis first brought up his half-century in 87 balls, before gradually increasing his scoring rate until a climax saw him hit three sixes in four balls after he had reached three figures.

Du Plessis scored his maiden one-day hundred last Wednesday against Australia, but followed it up with 126 against the same opposition in a losing cause on Tuesday before adding a third century on Thursday.

While Rossouw was bowled for 36 by Sean Williams, the left-arm spinner, and De Villiers was run out in bizarre circumstances when John Nyumbu dropped a return catch from Du Plessis onto the stumps at the non-striker's end, a 103-run stand between Du Plessis and JP Duminy put South Africa back on track.

Although all but one of the top seven reached double figures, Zimbabwe was unable to form any meaningful partnerships.

Duminy completed a fine all-round show with figures of 3 for 35 as Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Aaron Phangiso and Rossouw all took a wicket apiece.
