Misbah’s side becomes first Pakistan team in 20 years to win series against Australia.
Pakistan notched up its first series victory over Australia in more than 20 years after a 356-run win in the second Test  at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Monday (November 3). The win took Pakistan to No. 3 in the Reliance ICC Test rankings, behind No. 1 South Africa and Australia.

After having set Australia a target of 603, spinners Zulfiqar Babar and Yasir Shah picked up eight wickets between them to dent the opposition once again. Despite a fighting 97 from Steve Smith, Australia was bundled for 246 soon after lunch on the fifth and final day.

Smith led Australia's resistance in the morning session with Mitchell Marsh (47) for company. The duo resisted the Pakistan attack with a 107-run fifth-wicket stand. Smith, however, missed out on a century by three runs, following which Australia lost four wickets for eight runs in quick succession after lunch.

Babar, who finished with figures of 5 for 120, picked up his second five-wicket haul after his first one in the first Test and finished the series with 14 wickets. Shah's three wickets in the second innings took his tally for the series to 12.

Smith resolutely fought off the Pakistan bowlers before lunch to reach his eighth Test fifty in the company of Marsh, who had top-scored with 87 in Australia's first innings. Mohammad Hafeez provided the breakthrough when he had Marsh caught by Asad Shafiq at leg-slip.

Pakistan scored a mammoth 570 for 6 declared in its first innings to set things up, and then took a decisive 309-run lead after dismissing Australia for 261 in its first innings.

This was Misbah-ul-Haq's 14th Test win, putting him on par with Imran Khan and Javed Miandad for most Test wins for Pakistan as captain. Misbah also set the world record for the fastest half-century and equalled the record for the fastest century in all Test cricket during his unbeaten 101 not out on Sunday.
