Ian Bell comes in for Joe Root for ICC World Twenty20 2014 to be played in Bangladesh
Root fractured his right thumb during the third and final ODI against the West Indies in Antigua.
Bell has represented England in seven T20Is in which he has scored 175 runs at an average of just under 30.
The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad.
The Event Technical Committee of the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014 consists of Geoff Allardice (ICC, chairman), Campbell Jamieson (IDI representative), Mahbubul Anam (BCB Director), Khaled Mahmud Sujan (BCB Director and former captain), Russel Arnold (independent nominee) and Pommie Mbangwa (independent nominee).
England is in Group 1 along with Sri Lanka, New Zealand, South Africa and winner of Group B, and will play its opening Super 10 stage match against New Zealand on Saturday 22 March.
