Trisha Chetty added 61 for the first wicket with Lizelle Lee.
South Africa Women beat Ireland Women by 46 runs in the third match of the PCB Qatar Women's 20-over Tri-Series at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha on Monday (January 20). Lizelle Lee was named the Player of the Match for her 63-ball 50.

Sent in, Lee and Trisha Chetty added 61 for the first wicket to set the platform for South Africa to post 119 for 2 in 20 overs. Due to the regular loss of wickets, Ireland was never on track to chase the posed total and ended its 20 overs at 73 for 8.

Laura Delany, the medium pacer, provided Ireland with the breakthrough in the 13th over when she had Chetty caught by Clare Shillington for 23 after a steady start by South Africa. Delany came back to bowl Lee to pick up her second wicket with South Africa at 88 for 2 in the 17th over.

Mignon du Preez, the captain, remained unbeaten on 18 as she shared a quickfire 31-run stand in 3.2 overs with Marizanne Kapp (19 off 14) to take South Africa to 119 for 2 in 20 overs.

With the highest partnership coming late in the game, Ireland was never in the chase. Kapp dismissed Shillington for a 13-ball 10 in the fourth over. Dane van Niekerk backed that up with the wickets of Isobel Joyce, Elena Tice and Delany, followed by Melissa Scott-Hayward's run out to have Ireland struggling at 47 for 5 by the 13th over.

Requiring 73 off 45 balls, Ireland needed a partnership to even get close to the target. Kate McKenna shared the highest stand of the innings (19 runs) for the seventh wicket with Louise McCarthy, before she was dismissed by Shabnim Ismail. South Africa restricted Ireland to 73 for 8 in 20 overs, registering its first win in the tournament.

The two sides meet again on Wednesday in Doha.
