Dockrell puts Ireland on verge of win

Left-arm spinner takes four wickets as Ireland ends day three just one wicket away from victory over UAE

Dockrell puts Ireland on verge of win - Cricket News
George Dockrell of Ireland.
George Dockrell's four-wicket haul put Ireland on the verge of victory over the United Arab Emirates on the third day of their Intercontinental Cup match at The Village in Malahide, Dublin on Thursday (June 4)
UAE resumed the day at 202 for 8 in reply to Ireland’s 492 and added only 11 runs before being dismissed. Forced to follow on, Saqib Ali (51) and Swapnil Patil (63) fought hard for UAE with battling half-centuries, but a combined effort by Ireland's bowlers left it struggling at 251 for 9, still trailing by 28 runs, at the end of the day.
Dockrell starred with 4 for 93 and received good support from Paul Stirling (2 for 31), Craig Young (2 for 57) and Tim Murtagh (1 for 22).
UAE's second innings started on a steady note with its openers Asif Iqbal and Amjad Ali adding 40, but a double-strike by Dockrell pulled it back. Iqbal was the first to go, driving the left-arm spinner to short cover, and Amjad followed soon, top-edging a sweep to the wicketkeeper. The score, 47 for 2 then, became 65 for 3 when Khurram Khan edged Stirling to slip.
The quick strikes were followed by a 100-run stand for the fourth wicket between Saqib and Patil. Patil was the more aggressive and hit 10 fours during his 110-ball stay before he was stumped off Dockrell attempting a big shot. The off-spinner had Shaiman Anwar caught at forward short-leg for nought in his next over for his fourth wicket, triggering a lower-order collapse.
Amid all this, Saqib remained firm and went past his half-century after facing more than 200 balls, but Young ended his resistance, inducing an outside edge to second slip in the 83rd over. Fayyaz Ahmed and Amjad Javed struck 10 boundaries between them to reduce UAE's deficit, but Ireland struck at regular intervals and ended the day just one wicket away from victory.
