England batsman Gary Ballance has achieved a career-best ranking of 22nd in the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen following the conclusion of the Antigua Test, which ended in a draw.

The ICC Emerging Cricketer of 2014 scored his fourth career century in ninth Test, which has helped him rise seven places. He now shares 22nd spot with India’s Murali Vijay, with 19th ranked Ian Bell firmly within his sights. The two England batsmen are separated by 23 ratings points.

In doing so, Ballance has become England’s third highest-ranked batsmen following Joe Root (10th) and Bell (19th) after captain Alastair Cook has slipped four places to 29th position in the latest rankings.

There were three other centurions in the Antigua Test and they all have been rewarded for their achievements.

Root has achieved a career-high rating of 800 ratings points and now trails ninth-ranked David Warner by five ratings points, while West Indies’ Jermaine Blackwood has gained 31 places and is now in 60th position and Jason Holder has broken into the top 100 after climbing 31 places to 84th position.

In the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test Bowlers, West Indies’ Jerome Taylor has returned to the top 50 in 49th spot after vaulting nine places while Holder has claimed 74th position after jumping 11 places.

The second Test of the three-match series starts in Grenada on Tuesday.
