Steyn breaks into elite 400-wicket club

South African paceman is the 13th bowler in Test history to reach the landmark

Steyn breaks into elite 400-wicket club - Cricket News
When Tamim Iqbal edged a delivery and Hashim Amla took a chest-high catch at first slip, the Bangladesh batsman became Dale Steyn’s 400th wicket in Tests.
Steyn is the 13th bowler in Test history to reach the landmark, but even among that elite list, he stands tall.
He is one of only three currently active cricketers to achieve the feat, joining Harbhajan Singh, the India offspinner, and James Anderson, the England pacer.
Here are some nuggets from his career that put his achievement in perspective and show where he stands among his peers:

1. He is the joint second-fastest bowler to get to the landmark, taking the same number of matches, 80, as Richard Hadlee to get to the landmark. They both follow Muttiah Muralitharan, who took his 400th wicket in his 72nd match.
2. He has the highest bowling strike-rate of anyone on that list of 13 when they got to 400 wickets, taking 41.61 balls per wicket. Hadlee’s strike-rate was 51.40, while Glenn McGrath’s was 52.63.
3. He is the second bowler to take 400 Test wickets for South Africa. Shaun Pollock is the only other South African to pass the 400-mark, taking 421 wickets before retiring in 2008.
4. Steyn took the fewest number of balls, 16,634, to reach the milestone, well ahead of Richard and McGrath who are next best.
5. Steyn is the fourth youngest to 400 Test wickets and the youngest seamer at 32 years and 33 days to reach 400 wickets. Glenn McGrath was the previous youngest quick bowler to reach the landmark, at 32 years and 354 days.
