Spinners help New Zealand sweep series 2-0

Zimbabwe goes down by 254 runs after stiff resistance early on Day 5 from Tiripano and Ervine

Spinners help New Zealand sweep series 2-0 - Cricket News
New Zealand cricket team celebrates with the series trophy after beating hosts Zimbabwe 2-0.
Ish Sodhi finished with seven wickets for the match as New Zealand wrapped up a 254-run victory over Zimbabwe in the second and final Test between the two sides on Wednesday (August 10) to sweep the series 2-0.
Although Zimbabwe showed the stomach for a fight in the morning session on Day 5 with Donald Tiripano, the nightwatchman, and Craig Ervine, the first-innings centurion, once the two had fallen Zimbabwe folded.
Sodhi's leg-spin claimed three of the last four wickets to go down, while Martin Guptill, the part-time off-spinner, finished with 3 for 11 as Zimbabwe was bowled out for 132 in its second innings at Queen's Sports Club in Bulawayo.
New Zealand, after winning the toss, declared its first innings on 582 for 4 before Zimbabwe scored 362. Kane Williamson, who scored 113 – Tom Latham and Ross Taylor also got centuries – in that first innings, opted not to enforce the follow-on and New Zealand batted again before declaring its second innings on 166 for 2.

Zimbabwe started the last day on 58 for 3, chasing 387 for victory, and it looked good for the host when Tiripano and Ervine batted out the first 22 overs of the day.
However, first Tiripano fell lbw to Mitchell Santner, the left-arm spinner, for 22, and then Ervine was caught behind off Guptill for 27. After lunch, Graeme Cremer was out lbw to Guptill and that left Zimbabwe without much batting firepower.
Sodhi went on to clean up the tail and finish off the match with an innings haul of 3 for 19 from 11.4 overs.
