Miandad lends experience to Pakistan batsmen
Javed Miandad, the former Pakistan batsman, will join the Pakistan squad to provide coaching assistance before the ICC World Twenty20
Javed Miandad (R) has been given a special assignment with Pakistan before the start of the World T20.
Pakistan's former Test captain and legendary batsman Javed Miandad will join the national team in Sri Lanka to provide batting coaching ahead of the ICC World Twenty20.
"He (Miandad) has been given a special assignment for a short period before the start of the World Twenty20," a Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman said.
Also a former Pakistan coach, 55-year-old Miandad will not interfere with the work of present coach Dav Whatmore once the tournament starts but will instead concentrate on any individual batting issues following a series of recent collapses.
Pakistan’s concerns with the bat were encapsulated by Monday’s dismissal for 74 in the third T20I against Australia – their lowest total in T20 history.
The ICC World T20 2009 champions will be hoping to iron out any concerns before the latest tournament gets underway for them on September 23 against NewZealand.
