Sri Lankan captain lauds Murali Harmony Cup, calls it a "brilliant concept"
Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardena is excited about the response to the inaugural Murali Harmony Cup.
The 20-team reconciliation tournament is being staged to promote community-building and friendship in post-war Sri Lanka. The tournament has been jointly organised by Muttiah Muralidaran’s charity the Foundation of Goodness, travel company Red Dot Tours, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Sri Lanka Army.
The tournament is a fore-runner to the ICC World Twenty20 Sri Lanka 2012.
"It has been a brilliant concept. Kumar, myself and Murali had been wanting to start something since the war ended for the underprivileged kids in North and East. The kids there have not got the opportunities for the last 25-30 years. The enthusiasm is amazing. The corporates too have stepped forward. Now we have four-five really good grounds, so it is exciting to have the infrastricture up and running. Some of the results have been surprising too. It is going well,'' said Jayawardena.
