Cusack and Rankin star as Ireland beat Sri Lanka A
Ireland achieved a comfortable seven-wicket victory in their ICC World T20 warm-up game against Sri Lanka ‘A’ in Colombo on Monday.
A fine bowling display from the Irish restricted the hosts to 105-9 from their 20 overs.
Alex Cusack (3-11) and Boyd Rankin (2-13) were the stand-out performers but experienced English county player Tim Murtagh (1-24) will also have been encouraged by his first wicket for Ireland.
Angelo Perera (32) and Thilina Kandamby (21) were the only Sri Lankan batsmen to offer much resistance.
Ed Joyce (53 not out from 39 balls) and Niall O’Brien (28 not out from 19 deliveries) made light work of their target as the visitors got home with 5.4 overs in hand.
Ireland coach Phil Simmons was delighted with his side’s effort: "It's been a very strong performance by the team against a very good side. The bowlers all impressed to set up the win and 105 was never going to be enough. It all augurs well for the challenges which we will face in the coming weeks."
Ireland’s next warm-up game takes place on Thursday against Zimbabwe.
