We need a total team effort: Dwayne Bravo

West Indies all-rounder says the attempt is to send back Australia's top three back early in the ICC World Twenty20 2012 semi-final

We need a total team effort: Dwayne Bravo - Cricket News
Dwayne Bravo feels getting the Australian top three out early will be important for West Indies.
Dwayne Bravo, on the eve of the ICC World Twenty20 2012 semi-final against Australia, emphasised on team effort being the key to overcome Australia.

“First of all, we need a total team effort. I think both sides (are) familiar with each other, their strengths and weaknesses. We need to capitalise on good starts and make sure we start well,” said Bravo.

Bravo observed that Australia relied heavily on its top three to do the bulk of the scoring and that West Indies would try and exploit the vulnerable middle-order. “We will try to restrict the Australians. We’re going to the target their three batters. They’ve been doing the bulk of the scoring. And we will try and expose their middle-order,” said Bravo.

On West Indies beating New Zealand in the Super Over, Bravo said that it felt good to finish on the winning side in close matches. “A situation when you need  5 runs from 3 balls or something like that and you end up on the winning side is nice. Hopefully, it will happen again in the semi-final. It’s good to see that we have experienced it before. It adds to the self-belief of the team that you can come back from any position and win,” said Bravo.

When asked about the difference Sunil Narine made to the team, Bravo said, “Yeah, one of the best spinners in the world today is in our team and they (Australia) are aware of it. It’s good to have Sunil Narine in our armoury and we will use him to the best of our ability. We also have Samuel Badree, Chris (Gayle) and Marlon Samuels who have experience at this level too.”

Bravo did point out that West Indies was also in possession of good fast bowlers and that its attack did not entirely hinge on spin. “I am not going to say we are going to go all out spin against them. We also have good fast bowlers in our set-up. Whatever plan we come up with as a team, we need to execute it. It will be a battle between pace and spin,” concluded Bravo.
