The ICC Women's World Twenty20 champions plan to celebrate their success in Melbourne

Australia Women celebrate winning the Women's World Twenty20 2012 final against England.
The Australia women’s team arrived back from Sri Lanka on Tuesday morning keen to begin celebrating its ICC Women’s World Twenty20 success in earnest.

After wrapping up a four-run win over England, the Southern Stars had little time to reflect on their victory before hotfooting it to the airport.

Captain Jodie Fields explained upon her arrival at Melbourne Airport: “The girls were a little bit disappointed they had to get on a 3am flight, but hopefully we'll have a bit of an occasion in Melbourne to celebrate as a team and celebrate such a good win.”

Australia coach Cathryn Fitzpatrick is now setting her sights on achieving ‘the double’, with the ICC Women’s World Cup coming up in early 2013.

“It's a big year,” she said. “We've got the 50-over World Cup in February in India as well. This is a good start to it.”

Fitzpatrick was bullish about her side’s tense T20 final win over old rivals England, who went into the match as favourites after impressing earlier on in the tournament.

“A lot was talked about England,” Fitzpatrick said. “They actually stated in the round games that they breezed past us, but we didn't feel that at all … we knew that we just didn't apply enough pressure in that game and…if we could we'd expose some cracks.

''I'm not used to…going into a game against an English side and them [being] favourite, but it's OK. They've got a good record. Going into it, they'd won 24 from 25 and now they're 24 from 26 - and we've got a World Cup,” she concluded.
