Event Technical Committee approves the replacement of Asim Khurshid by Manjula Ansanka Guruge for the UAE
The ICC has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2013 (WT20Q) has approved one replacement player in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) squad for the tournament, and one replacement player in the USA squad.
The UAE’s Asim Khurshid is unable to participate in the tournament due to personal reasons, and will be replaced by Manjula Ansanka Guruge. Asim Khurshid is a 32-year-old right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast pace bowler, and is replaced by 32-year-old Manjula Ansanka Guruge, a left-handed fast bowler.
The USA’s former captain Massiah, a right-handed batsman and right-arm off-spin bowler, is unable to participate due to work commitments, and is replaced by Fahad Babar, a 21-year-old right-handed batsman.
The confirmation was conveyed to the UAE and USA squads on behalf of the committee.
Any request for a replacement requires a written submission to the Event Technical Committee. Once replaced, a player may not return to the squad save as an approved subsequent replacement for another injured or ill player.
As with all players in the tournament, the eligibility of a replacement player is subject to approval by the ICC before that player can be officially added to the squad.
The Event Technical Committee of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2013 comprises Geoff Allardice (Chair – ICC General Manager – Cricket), Chris Tetley (IDI Representative), Mudassar Nazar (independent nomination), David East (Emirates Cricket Board Representative), Mazhar Khan (Emirates Cricket Board Representative) and Osman Samiuddin (independent nomination).
