Anil Kumar Mandal to replace Avinash Karn in the Nepal squad for ICC World Twenty20 2014
The ICC has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014 has approved Anil Kumar Mandal as a replacement player for Avinash Karn in the Nepal squad for the tournament, which starts today (Sunday).
Karn has suffered an injury to his right knee and, therefore, has been ruled out of the tournament.
Mandal, 23, is a right-handed batman who has played nine Twenty20 matches. He has played in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2012 and 2013, and most recently represented Nepal in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier New Zealand 2014.
The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad.
The Event Technical Committee of the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014 consists of Geoff Allardice (ICC, chairman), Campbell Jamieson (IDI representative), Mahbubul Anam (BCB Director), Khaled Mahmud Sujan (BCB Director and former captain), Russel Arnold (independent nominee) and Mpumelelo Mbangwa (independent nominee).
Nepal will open its campaign against Hong Kong at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong later today.
