Ireland qualified for its first ICC global event with a two-run, last-ball victory over the Netherlands in the third-place play-off at the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier in July 2013. Captain Isobel Joyce, whose twin sister Cecilia is also part of the team and whose brother Ed plays for Ireland’s male side, was player of the match with an unbeaten 72 off 64 balls. Ireland went on to lose to Pakistan by nine wickets in the semi-finals. Ireland recently defeated Pakistan in the T20 Tri-Series in Doha, although it did lose twice to South Africa and its other match against Pakistan. Its one victory, by six wickets with two balls remaining, came in the second match of the tournament. The Joyce sisters were the key performers with a 44-run partnership for the fourth wicket to anchor Ireland’s run-chase. Ireland lost all six ODIs in 2013 and January 2014.
