The ICC Champions Trophy 2017 Nissan Trophy Tour, which was launched in Dubai in February, touched down in Colombo on Thursday (March 23).
The stopover in Colombo was flagged off with an event in the Sri Lanka Cricket headquarters, which was attended by Angelo Mathews, the Sri Lanka captain, and Ashley de Silva, the SLC CEO.
The trophy was then taken to various iconic locations in Colombo – Moratuwa, Maharagama, Nugegoda, Town Hall and Galle Face, with a final stop at Independence Avenue in the evening. Fans were given an opportunity to pose for photographs with the trophy all the way through, and the excitement among them was palpable.
Papare, a local band, added to the excitement with live performances as the trophy made its way across the city.
