Biography

Bob Simpson, the former Australian captain and coach, was known to be a confident and tenacious competitor. Simpson made his debut against South Africa in Johannesburg in 1957. He represented Australia in 2 One-Day Internationals and 62 Tests. He piled up 4869 runs at an average of 46.81 and his leg-spin bowling, brought him 71 Test wickets which included two five-wicket hauls. Simpson was named Australia’s captain in 1963 and led Australia in 39 Tests in which the team saw 12 wins, 12 losses and 15 draws. He was named Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1965.
