One of Australia's greatest captains, Allan Border held many records. At the time of his retirement, he had featured in more Tests, more consecutive Tests, more Tests as captain and more catches than any other player.
Allan Border represented Australia in 156 Tests and 273 One-Day Internationals, accumulating a total of 11,174 runs in Tests, a record that was later broken by West Indian Brian Lara.
Known for his stubbornness at the crease and the price he attached to his wicket, Border troubled oppositions for over a decade. Border became the Australia captain after Kim Hughes resigned and later led Australia to the World Cup title in 1987.
Primarily a left-hand batsman, he also tasted success with his slow left-arm orthodox bowling, including one ten-wicket haul and two five-wicket hauls on the way to picking up 39 Test wickets combined with 73 ODI scalps. His best bowling figures in Tests were 11 for 96.
